"Live And Well" was produced in 1969 by the then 26-year-old Bill Szymczyk, who would go on to become one of America's most successful producers over the next two decades. The album consists of five live tracks (side A) recorded at New York's Village Gate club and five studio tracks (side B). It was the first B album. B. B.B. King's first album to make the Top 100 albums list. Rock stars like Eric Clapton and Michael Bloomfield have always emphasized the influence of B. B. King's influence on their game. By that time, not only the die-hard blues fans, but also the young white rock audience already knew his name. Not with King's regular band, but with a small group of select musicians, Szymczyk spent two days recording the complete album "Live And Well" at The Hit Factory and "live" at the Village Gate. It remains to Szymczyk's credit that Blues B. B. King's music, augmented by soul and rock borrowings, he made available to a wider audience with this album. "King was always particularly good in live recordings, and the concert recordings here spread that special glow. But even the studio recordings (made with the help of studio musicians like Al Kooper and Hugh McCracken) aren't bad at all." (Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide). We are reissuing this great live and studio album as it was originally released in 1969: with the original cover, design and liner notes, plus pressed for the first time on 180-gram vinyl.
