The album was produced by Scott Burns and featured Chuck Schuldiner on guitar and vocals, bassist Terry Butler and drummer Bill Andrews. Schuldiner's brother Gene also played guitar on the album. Spiritual Healing is a concept album that explores the theme of healing the mind and body. Schuldiner has stated that the album was inspired by his own battle with cancer, which he was diagnosed with in 1988. The lyrics deal with the idea of overcoming personal struggles and finding inner peace.
