The album, released in 1998, was hailed as a bold evolution of the debut, which sold over four million copies worldwide, matching the success of its predecessor. Formed in 1993 by Duke Erikson, Steve Marker, Butch Vig and Shirley Manson, Garbage has sold over 17 million albums worldwide in its 28-year career. The album is now being released in remastered form as a 2LP 180g gatefold and 2CD digipack.

Version 2.0 is the second studio album by American alternative rock band Garbage.It was released on May 11, 1998 by Almo Sounds. The album was produced by the band and John King, with additional production by Butch Vig. The album was recorded between 1997 and 1998 at various locations in California. Version 2.0 received generally positive reviews from music critics. Some praised the album for its eclectic mix of genres, while others felt that the album was not as strong as their debut album. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and sold over 153,000 copies in its first week. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded it a platinum record for shipping one million copies in the United States.
