Genesis: Duke Die Version auf Vinyl LP in remastered Auflage. Diese besondere Auflage wurde veröffentlicht in UK im Verlag Surreal am 23. August 2024.
Duke was the tenth studio album by British rock band Genesis, released in 1980. The album departed from the band's earlier progressive rock sound and instead featured a more pop-like style. The album Duke was commercially successful, reaching number one in the UK and number three in the US. The album's lead single, "Turn It On Again", reached number one in the UK and number ten in the US. The album Duke was certified platinum by the RIAA. The album was produced by Genesis and Hugh Padgham and features the band's classic line-up of Phil Collins, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and Steve Hackett. The songs on the album were written by the band members with the exception of "Duke's Travels", which was written by Collins and Padgham. Duke is a concept album, telling the story of a character named Duke who is a "drifter" and a "loser". The album's lyrics are dark and introspective, with themes of isolation and loneliness. The album's music is a blend of pop and rock with elements of funk and jazz. The songs are generally shorter and more radio-friendly than the band's earlier work.
Album Genres übergreifend Progressive rock, Pop Rock, Symphonic Prog und Progressive Pop. Standard Edition 180g Black Vinyl.
Genesis: Duke Die Version auf Vinyl LP in Standard- Auflage. Diese besondere Auflage wurde veröffentlicht in Europa im Verlag Charisma am 10. August 2018.
Genesis' tenth studio album, Duke, was released after the longest break between album releases. But if they were worried about the audience reaction two years after ...And Then There Were Three.... were worried about the audience reaction, they didn't have to. The album Duke, released on 28 March 1980, became Genesis' most successful album to date and their first UK number one, hitting the US charts on 26 April and climbing to number 11, another career high up to that point. On the album, Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford continued to explore the poppier side of their sound, particularly on the hits "Turn It On Again" and Collins' track "Misunderstanding". Still, there were enough of them for their progressive fans to get their teeth into. Five of the twelve tracks on Duke are collaborations between the band, with all three being writers, while Banks added three solo tracks and Rutherford and Collins two each. The album was recorded in late 1979 at Polar Studios, the famous home of ABBA's sound in Stockholm, and was produced by Genesis and David Hentschel. The Duke album outperformed all its predecessors and reached number one in the UK charts in its first week of release, overtaking Johnny Mathis' Tears and Laughter. It stayed there for a second week, scoring eight consecutive weeks in the Top 5 and 30 weeks in the Top 75. The group's previous best placing was #3, achieved by Selling England By The Pound, A Trick Of The Tail and ...And Then There Were Three..... The album only went platinum in the UK in July. It achieved a new personal best in the States and went platinum in 1988.
