New proof With the album "Magma" Gojira releases a new album in 2016. The record, released by Roadrunner Records, is the sixth studio effort from the French metal combo. In November 2014, the band began building their own studio in the Queens borough of New York City: the Silver Cord Studio. When it was completed in early 2015, Gojira began writing and recording a new album. However, these were interrupted for some time due to deaths in the family of singer Joe and drummer Mario Duplantier. In early 2016, they finally finished recording and mixing. "Magma" is the title of the ten-song result, from which Gojira has already released two singles in advance, namely "Stranded" and "Silvera". Both songs clearly show what the tone of the new album is: progressive death metal, this time a little less epic than on previous albums, but all the more edgy. The riffs are as heavy as ever, but Joe Duplantier's vocals often sound surprisingly clear by Gojira's standards. The songs have gotten shorter overall. All of this doesn't change the fact that you can clearly hear who they are on the new album. Gojira is a band that hasn't had to prove for a long time that they are one of the crème de la crème of international metal. However, on the album "Magma" they do it again.

Ein neuer Beweis

Mit »Magma« veröffentlichen Gojira 2016 ein neues Album. Die Platte, die bei Roadrunner Records erscheint, ist bereits das sechste Studiowerk der französischen Metalcombo.

Schon im November 2014 begann die Band, sich im New Yorker Stadtteil Queens ein eigenes Studio einzurichten: das Silver Cord Studio. Als es Anfang 2015 fertig war, starteten Gojira mit dem Songwriting und den Aufnahmen zum neuen Album. Diese wurden jedoch aufgrund eines Todesfalls in der Familie von Sänger Joe und Schlagzeuger Mario Duplantier für einige Zeit unterbrochen. Anfang 2016 beendeten sie schließlich Aufnahmen und Mixing.

»Magma« heißt das insgesamt zehn Songs starke Resultat, von denen Gojira vorab bereits zwei Singles ausgekoppelt haben, nämlich »Stranded« und »Silvera«. Beide Songs zeigen klar und deutlich, was der Tenor auf dem neuen Album ist: progressiver Deathmetal, der dieses Mal allerdings etwas weniger episch ist als auf den Vorgängern, dafür ein Stück kantiger. Die Riffs sind dabei schwer wie immer, der Gesang von Joe Duplantier klingt für Gojira-Verhältnisse aber oft erstaunlich clean. Die Songs sind insgesamt kürzer geworden.

Aber all das ändert nichts daran, dass man auf dem neuen Album klar heraushört, um wen es sich hier handelt.

Gojira ist eine Band, die schon lange nicht mehr beweisen muss, dass sie zur Crème de la Crème des internationalen Metal gehört. Auf »Magma« machen sie es dennoch erneut.
