Billie Joe Armstrong (guitar, vocals), Mike Dirnt (b) and Tre Cool (dr) started working on "21st Century Breakdown" in 2006. Together with producer Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage) they gave the album its final shape. "21st Century Breakdown" is also a clearly structured punk album, consisting of three parts: "Heroes And Cons", "Charlatan And Saints" and "Horseshoes And Handgrenades". The story follows young married couple Christian and Gloria as they navigate the promising and chaotic beginnings of this century.
