While the compositions collected on Esja stemmed primarily from her fascination with the piano and focused on that instrument, the successor Home is much broader and more cinematic, the sonic spectrum greatly expanded this time around: Hania Rani doesn't rely only on vocals and electronic elements, as this time she is also supported by a rhythm section in some of the tracks - Ziemowit Klimek (bass guitar) and Wojtek Warmijak (drums). These new tracks were also recorded by the original sound engineers Piotr Wieczorek and Ignacy Gruszecki (Monochrom Studio), with Gijs van Klooster mixing them in his Amsterdam studio and Piotr Wieczorek in Warsaw ("Ombelico", "Come Back Home"). The Home album was mastered in Berlin by Zino Mikorey, who is known for his work with artists such as Nils Frahm and Olafur Arnalds. Hania Rani clearly sees Home as a continuation of the work she started with Esja - as "the completion of the movement", as she puts it. A metaphorical journey awaits the listener: The album tells the story of the places that become our home - sometimes quite accidentally, sometimes consciously and planned. It tells of leaving a familiar place and the journey that follows. Home begins with an excerpt from Bruno Schulz's short story "Loneliness", a parable about a journey that does not necessarily mean leaving home, but rather crossing the symbolic boundaries of experience and imagination. "For me, Home is like a sequel to the same book..... Esja was, in a way, a beginning, a tonal prelude to its own story. And Home is now a story with a proper ending, so the next book may be about something else again.
