The jazz world has always had great heroes. There is no greater and more charismatic jazz pianist in the world today than Herbie Hancock. He is a living legend with a fascinating jazz history, but above all an artist with a contemporary mindset who has been breaking down barriers and stirring up controversy here and there among purists. Like his one-time bandleader Miles Davis, Hancock is a musician who is as controversial as he is popular, and who can still work well with styles as diverse as hardbop and funk. Herbie sets standards, often in collaboration with fellow musicians from the rock and pop scene, and now presents his Joni Mitchell project, "River: The Joni Letters". Produced by Mitchell's ex-husband Larry Klein, it features two dozen of Joni Mitchell's best and most beautiful songs performed by Herbie and his jazz musicians, including saxophone icon Wayne Shorter. The album features gems of the singer-songwriter genre, sung by Joni Mitchell herself, as well as notable guests and her fans such as Norah Jones, Corinne Bailey Rae, Leonard Cohen and Tina Turner.
