Imagine is John Lennon's second solo album and his most popular project. The album was recorded and released in 1971. The album's songs are more mellow and less avant-garde than those of his previous album, which he released under the name John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. According to Lennon's own statements, his aim in making the album was to put a chocolate coating on his ideas, which is more interesting to a wider range of audiences.The core of the album was recorded at Lennon's home studio (Ascot Sound Studios in Tittenhurst Park), with some additional parts recorded at the Record Plant in New York. The co-producers of the album were Phil Spector, John Lennon and Yoko Ono. The working materials produced during the recording process, which document the development of musical ideas during the realization of some of the songs, were released on a video entitled Gimme Some Truth: The Making of John Lennon's Imagine.The title track, Imagine, became John Lennon's so-called signature song and one of the most famous musical appeals for presenting the idea of world peace.Other popular tracks include Jealous Guy (a composition written in India in 1968 during the recording of The Beatles' album Child of Nature), Oh My Love (a collaboration with Yoko Ono), and the meditative How?.The album Imagine also includes the rock'n'roll-tinged songs Crippled Inside and It's So Hard, as well as the provocative Gimme Some Truth, which was written with The Beatles during the recording of Let It Be. Originally, the first side of Imagine closes with a cacophonous blend of tones on the political song I Don't Wanna Be a Soldier Mama.
