The work bears its title rightfully, as it differs significantly from its predecessors with harder and even more consistently ripping directives. After a long period with a steady lineup of Bluesbreakers, "Tough" was made with a new group of musicians who clearly reinvigorated Mayall and acted as the perfect medium for his work. Shortly before his 76th birthday, Mayall shows no signs of tiring, quite the opposite: he will spend most of the year touring America and Europe with his new band. Mayall's influence on the genre cannot be overstated, his career spanning from the mid-1960s to the present day, and nurturing the talents of artists such as Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, Peter Green, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Coco Montoya, Aynsley Dunbar, Walter Trout, Buddy Whittington and many more.
