Lifeboat in chaos: new album by Low Indie rock, slowcore and dreampop - For almost 30 years, Low has been navigating its own unmistakably slow sound world. That's where the band from Duluth, Minnesota, is headed in 2021 with their new LPm, their thirteenth. "Hey What" is the title of the record, on which singer and guitarist Ian Sparhawk and vocalist and drummer Mimi Parker collaborated with producer DJ Burton for the third straight time. They recorded a total of ten songs for "Hey What", each built around a unique hook. Familiar harmonies cut through the chaos like a lifeboat. Layers of distorted sounds build with each new verse - building, breaking, colossal and then restrained. Low revealed what it sounds like back in June with the first single from the new album. "Days Like These" clocks in at nearly five and a half minutes. In it, the band builds on their last album, 2018's Double Negative: Sparhawk and Parker's vocals form the core, repeatedly punctuated or underscored by darkly distorted, jarring arrangements that are impossible not to sink into. "Hey What" is out now on the well-known indie label Sub Pop Records, which says of the album, Low focuses on his craft, holding back and sticking to his convictions to find new ways to express the dichotomy and joy of life, to turn the duality of existence into anthems we can share. In addition to the standard CD and classic black LP, "Hey What" is also available in a limited Loser Edition on clear vinyl. But only while supplies last.
Album Genres übergreifend Rock, Elektronische Musik, Experimental, Ambient, Noise und Post Rock.
