The master of genres and gibberish Manu Chao is back. José-Manuel Thomas Arthur Chao was born in Paris in 1961 and after the successful platinum album Próxima Estación: Esperanza, it took him six years to release his first studio album La Radiolina. Of course, the perennially politically active world musician did not slack off between 2001 and 2007. Fidel Castro, Hugo Chávez and Diego Maradona visited, the G8 invited people to demonstrate, and the former Mano Negra boss brought nearly 100,000 skeptical festival-goers to his side in California as the opening act for Rage Against The Maschine. In between extensive touring, Manu Chao wrote dozens of songs, some of which were released on the album La Radiolina. The album is higher, harder and rockier, and shows the political opponent of globalization as a musical advocate once again. Strongly influenced by countless concert tours in Latin and South America, socialized by Western rock, this little big man and his band Radio Bemba combine texmex, blues, Latin, rai, ska, folk or blues in an interplay of electric and acoustic arrangements. The message of the album by the son of refugees from Spain during Franco's dictatorship is already contained in the title "Little Radio", because the insights of this exceptional musician, who usually carries his home with him like a backpack, are based on a worldwide formula: change always starts small, in the social environment. The art of King Of Bongo, even on La Radiolina, is that he doesn't deliver his messages in a morally acidic or coded way, but packs easily understandable words into multi-layered yet melodic songs.
