Marillion without the voice and person of the imposing two-meter frontman Fish, when former Europeans singer Steve Hogarth joined them in 1989, they simply became a completely different band, Marillion Mark II or 2nd, not inferior, but also different. Before that, until Fish's departure, the band had been synonymous with the revival of the progressive rock genre through their four studio albums and various live recordings in the 1980s. Especially live, the quintet was always a treat to experience acoustically, as on the 6CD set "Early Stages: The Official Bootleg Box 1982-1987" released in 2008 with a lot of previously unreleased material - well, it's now unreleased, but at least there's now a double CD "Highlights" with fascinating concert clips from those legendary London venues "Marquee", "Hammersmith Odeon" and "Wembley Arena" or from the "Reading" festival in '83.
