Nirvana's Incesticide is a compilation album of rare and previously unreleased tracks, released on December 14, 1992. The album was certified platinum by the RIAA and has sold more than 1.5 million copies in the United States. Incesticide features songs from the band's first two albums, Bleach and Nevermind, as well as B-sides and compilation tracks. The album was produced by Butch Vig and Nirvana . The album's title is a reference to the 1973 play Incest, written by British playwright David Storey. The play tells the story of a brother and sister who are forced to confront their incestuous relationship. Kurt Cobain has stated that the play was a major influence on the writing of the song "Serve the Servants" from Nirvana 's 1993 album In Utero . The album cover was created by Kurt Cobain. It features a photograph of a child being held by a skeleton. The photo was taken by Cobain's then-girlfriend Tracy Marander.
