"Real music by real musicians" - Finally, Musicology is available again. This release will bring many new members to the funk fan community! Released after Prince was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the 2004 classic has already delighted millions of dance music freaks with tracks like "Musicology," "Call My Name" and "Cinnamon Girl." At the start of the new millennium, Prince made his music available exclusively through the Internet via the pioneering NPG Music Club, but in 2004 he returned to traditional distribution channels via Musicology. Although his career never had a real hiatus, and this incredibly prolific artist delighted his "fams," the "funk soldiers" of Prince's "Army," with new tracks on his homepage every month, Musicology was still hailed by the media and music industry as a "comeback album" because he was now reinventing himself beyond his fan community. Prince seemed to really enjoy his return to the limelight, which he celebrated with a very special performance when he performed a medley of "Let's Go Crazy", "Baby I'm a Star", "Purple Rain" and the single "Crazy in Love" with Beyoncé at the Grammys. A month later, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where he performed with an all-star ensemble. Along with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Steve Winwood, he paid tribute to the late George Harrison and performed a truly epochal guitar solo. The music scene was excited about the return, and Musicology came at the perfect time. After internet releases, the LP was finally backed by a media campaign, but of course the hugely successful Musicology tour played a major role in its success. When the tour was announced, every ticket buyer received a free copy of the album, which caused a stir among old and new fans alike thanks to its catchy blend of pop and laid-back soul numbers ("Cinnamon Girl" and the Grammy-winning "Musicology" and "Call My Name"). This unprecedented strategy of offering an album and concert ticket as a package deal contributed to chart success, set a precedent and is now a standard in marketing.
