Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic awarded the album four stars out of five, praising the tracks "We Will Rock You", "We Are the Champions" and "Bohemian Rhapsody". He concluded, "Queen was one of the most popular and successful rock bands of the 1970s and '80s, and this album is a great overview of their work." The album was commercially successful, ranking number two on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States. It was also successful in other countries, charting in the top five in several countries.
