Die tiefsten Geheimnisse des Lebens 2014 veröffentlichten Röyksopp ihr fünftes Album »The Inevitable End«, das sie damals als ihr letztes Album bezeichneten, obwohl sie weiterhin Musik machen wollten.

Nun ja, zur Freude aller Fans des norwegischen Electronica-Duos, bestehend aus Svein Berge und Torbjørn Brundtland, kommt 2023 »Profound Mysteries«. Die Rede ist allerdings von einem konzeptionellen audiovisuellen Projekt, das von einem Album begleitet wird.

»Profound Mysteries« wurde am 1. Januar mit dem Kurzfilm/Song »(Nothing But) Ashes…« angekündigt. Wenige Tage später kam mit »The Ladder«, das zusammen mit einem Kurzfilm von Kasper Häggström erschien, der nächste Vorbote. Im Februar folgte der Song »Impossible«, für den sie mit der britischen Sängerin, Songwriterin, Produzentin und Namensgeberin des Duos Goldfrapp, Alison Goldfrapp, zusammenarbeiteten.

»Es war großartig, mit den wunderbaren Svein und Torbjørn von Röyksopp zu arbeiten. Ich bin schon seit Jahren ein Fan ihrer Musik und es war eine faszinierende Freude, ›Impossible‹ gemeinsam zu machen. Ich hoffe wirklich, dass der Track allen gefällt, denn es wird noch mehr kommen«, so Goldfrapp in einem Statement.

Zu allen drei Stücken kreierte der zeitgenössische Künstler Jonathan Zawada aus Australien einen Visualizer.
