Canadian-American master of classical and modern-theatre music, musical genius and extravagant composer and singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright recaps and releases his first choice album Vibrate: The Best of Rufus Wainwright.

Wainwright, scion of the famous and artistically gifted Wainwright family, has written countless catchy songs for Hollywood films (e.g. Shrek, Moulin Rouge, Zoolander, Brokeback Mountain). Wainwright is a true musical genius with a truly rich past: he was raped at the age of 14, nearly went blind from drug addiction, had a baby with the daughter of Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, and also recently married the artistic director of Toronto's Luminato Festival, German Jörn Weisbrodt, after a long relationship.

The 40-year-old Wainwright has seven studio albums and two live albums to his credit, as well as countless film recordings, operas Hadrian and Prima Donna, and a setting of Shakespeare's sonnets for a stage work by director Robert Wilson. His tribute to Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall earned him a Grammy nomination. In addition to his tenor voice, Wainwright primarily plays piano and guitar, frequently changing instruments during live performances. Wainwright is inspired by theatre, opera, his family, literature and politics - no subject escapes him.
