Stevie Ray Vaughan (g, voc); Reese Wynans (keyb); Tommy Shannon (b); Chris Layton (dr, perc) Stevie Ray Vaughan sparked the 80s blues revival with his amazingly accomplished guitar playing. Drawing equally from bluesmen like Albert King, Otis Rush and Hubert Sumlin, and rock 'n' roll players like Jimi Hendrix and Lonnie Mack, as well as stray jazz guitarists like Kenny Burrell, Vaughan developed a uniquely eclectic and fiery style that sounded like no other guitarist, regardless of genre. On 1989's In Step, Vaughan found his own songwriting voice, uniquely blending blues, soul and rock and writing with surprising emotional honesty. Yes, there are a few cover versions, all well chosen, but the core of the album lies in the songs he wrote with Doyle Bramhall, the man who penned the "Soul To Soul" highlight "Change It." Fueled by a desire to make up for lost time and the joy of an awakened commitment to life and sobriety, Vaughan has made what many consider to be his greatest artistic statement, an album steeped in sweat, soul, determination and without a shred of filler. "Travis Walk" offers a heady rush of flat-picking, "The House is Rockin'" is full-on roots-boogie, "Let Me Love You Baby" and "Leave My Girl Alone" are sweet blues epiphanies, and the nine-minute instrumental "Riviera Paradise" is a truly soulful blend of blues and jazz. By this time, just a year before his untimely death, Vaughan had also tamed his croaky voice into a rich instrument. In short, this 1989 session represents Vaughan at his artistic peak. As with the vaunted "Texas Hurricane" reissue boxes, Analogue Productions once again brings you the best-sounding Stevie Ray Vaughan collection ever preserved on 200-gram vinyl. Ryan Smith of Sterling Sound cut the lacquers for the LPs using a state-of-the-art VMS 80 lathe. Gary Salstrom took care of the plating and, of course, the vinyl was pressed at Quality Record Pressings. "In Step" remains one of the five best blues records of the last quarter century. There isn't a single link in this chain that isn't absolutely first-rate. Absolutely the best that money can buy. We're passionate about the blues AND Stevie Ray, and that passion is on full display here.

Stevie Ray Vaughan (g, voc); Reese Wynans (keyb); Tommy Shannon (b); Chris Layton (dr, perc) Stevie Ray Vaughan sparked the 80s blues revival with his amazingly mature guitar. Taking his cue from blues musicians like Albert King, Otis Rush and Hubert Sumlin, as well as rock 'n' roll musicians like Jimi Hendrix and Lonnie Mack, and jazz guitarists like Kenny Burrell, Vaughan created a uniquely versatile, fiery style that echoes no other guitarist, whatever the genre. On 1989's In Step, Vaughan found a voice to match his own, blending blues, soul and rock in a unique way and writing his songs with surprising emotional honesty. Sure, there are a few cover versions, all well-chosen, but the heart of the album are the songs he wrote with Doyle Bramhall, the man who also wrote the album's highlight, "Change It," on Soul To Soul. Driven by a desire to make up for lost time and revel in his newly awakened devotion to life and sobriety, Vaughan has created this work of art that many consider to be his best - an album of mid-sweat, soul and determination, without a shred of filler. "Travis Walk" offers a heady onslaught of fast-paced picking, "The House is Rockin'" is a full-blooded roots-boogie, "Let Me Love You Baby" and "Leave My Girl Alone" are stunning blues revelations, and the nine-minute instrumental "Riviera Paradise" is a truly soulful blend of blues and jazz. Now, just a year before his untimely death, Vaughan has tamed his by-then somewhat booming voice into a polished instrument. In short, Vaughan is at the height of his powers on this 1989 recording. As with our lauded boxed reissue of "Texas Hurricane," Analogue Productions presents these Stevie Ray Vaughan tracks with superb sound on 200g vinyl. Ryan Smith of Sterling Sound is responsible for cutting the vinyl using the latest VMS 80 cutting machine. Gary Salstrom handled the electroplating and of course the vinyl was pressed by Quality Record Pressings. "In Step" is still one of the top five blues records of the last quarter century. Not a single link in this chain is absolutely first-rate, the best money can buy. We love the blues and Stevie Ray, and it shows here.
