Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble: The Sky Is Crying Die Version auf Vinyl LP in Standard- Auflage. Diese besondere Auflage wurde veröffentlicht in Europa im Verlag Music On Vinyl am 30. Oktober 2015.
Stevie Ray Vaughan sparked the blues revival of the 80s with his amazingly accomplished guitar playing. Taking cues from bluesmen like Albert King, Otis Rush and Hubert Sumlin, rock 'n' roll players like Jimi Hendrix and Lonnie Mack, as well as jazz guitarists like Kenny Burrell, Vaughan created a uniquely eclectic and fiery style that sounded like no other guitarist, regardless of genre. The album "Sky Is Crying" was released after SRV's 1990 helicopter crash in which he died. The posthumously compiled collection of ten outtakes actually proved to be one of Vaughan's most enduring albums, equaling "In Step" as the best outside of the Greatest Hits collection. These songs were recorded between 1984's Couldn't Stand The Weather and 1989's In Step and for some reason were dropped from the LP (or in the case of Empty Arms from the Soul To Soul album, a different version was used). What makes the record so good is its eclectic variety - Vaughan plays slide guitar on "Boot Hill" and acoustic guitar on "Life By The Drop"; he plays slow blues on "May I Have A Talk With You" and the title track, as well as a quick cover of Lonnie Mack's "Wham"; and he shows the jazzy side of his playing on Hendrix's "Little Wing" and Kenny Burrell's "Chitlins Con Carne." "See for yourself Vaughan's jazz mastery on Kenny Burrell's "Chitlins Con Carne" and Hendrix's "Little Wing," arguably the most stunning performance on this collection, which is alternately sweetly whispering and wildly screaming," writes The Absolute Sound. Other references reach back to Muddy Waters, Lonnie Mack ("Wham"), Elmore James and Albert King (the title track), but each song is pure, unbridled SRV. The sound is big, fat, frontal and clean. The various shades of Vaughan's sound - from warmly growling to jerky distortion to wasp tail, plus a rare acoustic twist on the gorgeous closing track "Life By The Drop" - are captured beautifully, and the drums and bass have plenty of clarity and power. As TAS writes: "A brilliant musical document... if a sad memory." Product Information The Sky Is Crying (1991) is the fifth studio album featuring performances by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, covering most of their career. What makes the album work is its eclectic diversity. Vaughan plays slide guitar on the song "Boot Hill" and acoustic guitar on the song "Life by the Drop". But it's not just the musical diversity that makes the record work, it's also Vaughan's emotional range. The album, which was released about a year after Vaughan's death in 1990, features ten previously unreleased tracks originally recorded between 1984 and 1989.
