Mit Pornography legen The Cure 1982 eines der Schlüsselalben des Gothic Rock vor. Wenn auch von den Kritiken zunächst nicht gerade mit Wohlwollen bedacht, so gilt das Album heute unter vielen Fans als das beste, das die Band jemals veröffentlicht hat. Klar ist: Pornography ist ein Meilenstein der Musik der 80er Jahre. Es gilt als das düsterste The Cure Album überhaupt, danach war es fast logisch in eine buntere popiggere Welt abzutauchen.
