"Ixnay on the Hombre" is the fourth studio album by California alternative rock band The Offspring, released on February 4, 1997 by Columbia Records. After the huge commercial success of the previous album "Smash" (1994), the band went into the studio in mid-1996 to record a new album with now more generous resources. The title, made up of the words "Ixnay", an abbreviation of the word "nix" known from Hollywood films of the 1940s, and the Spanish "Hombre", meaning "man", is meant to convey the message "Fuck the authorities". Musically, the band's punk roots are still evident on this album, but in addition to the now much more sophisticated studio production, the influence of the metal crossover that established Offspring as one of the great figures of alternative rock is evident in the songs. The four songs "All I Want", "Gone Away", "The Meaning of Life" and "I Choose" were released as singles from the album.
