The album was produced by Jimmy Iovine and U2 , and supervised by Brian Eno. The album was a commercial success, debuting at number one in 35 countries and selling over 25 million copies worldwide. It was the band's first album to debut at number one in the United States. The album also spawned the hits "The Sweetest Thing" and "One". The album was critically acclaimed, with Rolling Stone magazine ranking it as the fourth best album of the 1990s. In 2009, it was re-released as a remastered double album with a bonus DVD.
