In the fall of 1969, Van Morrison went into the studio to record what would become his breakthrough album and one of the most popular albums of all time: Moondance. Moondance was released in February 1970 and was certified triple platinum by the RIAA. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999 and in 2003 Rolling Stone magazine ranked it 65th on its list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Review ,,...because the studio versions, some of which are considerably longer, are thankfully often different from the album version or even from each other - this is especially evident on the title track, which swings in a distinctly jazzier fashion. "I Shall Sing," with which Art Garfunkel had a Top 40 hit in 1973, also has a special status, while Morrison's final mix remains unreleased to this day." (Good Times, October/November 2013) , "Great sketches and alternate versions from the 1969 workshop." (Rolling Stone, October 2013) ,,... simply amazing how songs like ,,Caravan" or ,,Into The Mystic" embrace the R'n'B and countryfolk of the late sixties. And even then, no one could make jazz brass sections sound as gritty and lyrical as VM. Elliot Scheiner, the sound engineer on the 1970 original, supervised the mastering." (Audio, November 201 Now fans have a great opportunity to experience the classic all over again in a newly remastered and greatly expanded edition - with 50 (!) previously unreleased tracks and unknown studio versions of songs like Caravan, Moondance and Into The Mystic, as well as many takes and a final mix of Morrison's original version of I Shall Sing, still unknown today.
