- It's been a while since the last "Ace Songwriter Series", but we still have a lot more episodes planned. This month the series continues with a package containing two dozen musical delights from the pen of the late Eddie Hinton - Eddie, a cult hero among those who know and love his Muscle Shoals music, was a fixture of the Shoals recording scene in the mid and late 1960s. In addition to being a prolific and instantly recognizable session guitarist and a great singer who unfortunately recorded all too infrequently, Eddie regularly wrote great songs with a group of peers that at various times included Donnie Fritts and Dan Penn - The album "Cover Me" contains a comprehensive selection of Eddie's best-known original compositions, many of which are now considered classics of '60s southern soul. Not all of Eddie's songs are as well-known as his biggest hit, the widely recorded "Breakfast In Bed", but there are several others that could and should have been just as commercially successful - Artists would always be happy to record anything Eddie submitted for their consideration. One only has to look at the list of performers on "Cover Me", which includes Bobby Womack, Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, Mink Deville, Cher and Lulu, to see the caliber of talent Eddie's royalty attracted - This collection features songs from all periods of Eddie's career.
