The primordial soup from which reggae was born: fantastic recordings from before the creation of Studio One. The musical richness of Jamaica is simply incredible. Much of it can be traced back to the work of Clement "Sir Coxson" Dodd. We know that he was extremely active even before the founding of his legendary Studio One in 1963, at the latest since the breathtaking 2015 compilation "Coxsone's Music". Now its successor is available. Nothing has changed about the concept. The compilation takes us back to the time when Clement Dodd took talented youngsters under his wing in the late 50s and 60s and created pre-reggae tracks with them. He then tested the freshly cut dubplates directly in the dance halls of Kingston with his Downbeat Sound System. What sold well was pressed on vinyl and was usually commercially successful. A spectacular selection can be found on "Coxsone's Music 2". The spectrum ranges from rhythm & blues to jazz and gospel to proto-ska and rasta music. Artists represented include Roland Alphonso, Don Drummond, Tommy McCook, Toots and The Maytals, Bob Marley and The Wailers, Delroy Wilson and Owen Gray.
