The book Das Lochamer Liederbuch (The Locham Songbook), referred to as the "first German songbook", is one of the earliest collections of German songs and instrumental pieces, written in the 1450s. This recording contains a representative selection of single and multi-part songs whose moods range from tender love songs such as Der wallt hat sich entlawbet to blessings on the changing seasons (Der winter will hin weichen / Der Summer) and dance songs. The instrumental versions are played on long-neglected and reconstructed instruments from the late Middle Ages, such as the dulcemelos, whose name means 'sweet melody' or 'sweet sound'.
