The non-profit label Rock The Cause has been offering its unconventional samplers for almost ten years. They have gained an international reputation for combining activism with music. With their new release "Gazing With Tranquility: A Tribute to Donovan", they've managed to enlist a group of lesser-known artists as well as a few household names to transform Donovan's timeless classics into modern indie gems. The artist, who has since been inducted into the Hall of Fame, made music history with songs like "Colours," "Catch the Wind" and "Sunshine Superman" and collaborated with artists like Joan Baez, Jimmy Page and George Harrison. This compilation features stars such as Sharon Van Etten and The Flaming Lips, alongside various independent artists, interpreting Donovan in their own way. Proceeds from the CD will be donated to Huntington's Hope, an organization that supports children affected by Huntington's Disease. review "Astronautalis propel "Season Of The Witch" through their synths to take a witch's ride trip-hopping into space. But in between there's also timelessly beautiful acoustic folk: Brett Dennen and Ivan & Alyosha don't stray too far from the originals on "Colours" and "Catch The Wind". And Sharon Van Etten conjures up one of the highlights of this fine tribute with her gorgeous voice over the sparkling chords of "Teen Angel"" (Good Times, December 2015/January 2016).
