Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard had already mastered the Texas boogie perfectly on their second LPm Rio Grande Mud, though here they focused even more on blues rock. The lesson they learned between their debut and this LP was that a bluesy feel, a swinging guitar sound and a good helping of cool distance also require a proper black funk groove to complement everything and make it irresistible (danceable). For example, "Francine" already foreshadows the groove of "Gimme All Your Lovin'", "Just Got Paid" could almost pass for funk with its opening riff, and even more traditional blues numbers like "Mushmouth Shoutin'" or "Sure Got Cold After The Rain Fell" have that unique "Little Ol' Band From Texas" groove. If you like earthy blues rock without the frills, this disc is not to be missed. Review , "Deguello have made an impressive case against the emerging punk and new wave competition."
