Cornershop is a British indie rock band that blends elements of Indian music, Britpop, and electronic dance music. Formed in 1991 by Tjinder Singh and his brother Avtar, who are of Indian descent, the band gained prominence in the UK indie scene with their innovative sound. Their breakthrough came with the 1997 album "When I Was Born for the 7th Time," which featured the hit single "Brimful of Asha." The song was later remixed by Fatboy Slim and became a chart-topping success. Cornershop's music is known for its fusion of traditional Indian instruments like the sitar and dholki with guitar-driven melodies, creating a unique and eclectic sound. Over the years, they have continued to release albums and maintain a loyal fan base, contributing to their status as a distinctive and influential act within alternative music circles.
