Belgian-Australian alternative pop musician

Gotye, the stage name of Wouter "Wally" De Backer, is a Belgian-Australian multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter. Born on May 21, 1980, in Bruges, Belgium, and raised in Australia, he has released three studio albums independently. Gotye first found fame with his 2006 album "Like Drawing Blood," which earned critical acclaim. However, it was his 2011 album "Making Mirrors" that propelled him to international stardom, largely due to the success of the single "Somebody That I Used to Know," featuring New Zealand artist Kimbra. This hit song topped charts globally and won multiple awards, including two Grammy Awards for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Record of the Year in 2013. Gotye's music is known for its unique sampling techniques and genre-blending style. Despite his success, Gotye has maintained a relatively low profile since his rise to fame and has focused on other projects, including playing drums for the band The Basics.
