The BBC National Orchestra of Wales (BBC NOW) is a Welsh symphony orchestra and one of the five professional orchestras of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Founded in April 1928 as the BBC Welsh Orchestra, it has played a central role in the musical life of Wales and the wider UK. The orchestra is based at Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff Bay, where it rehearses and records a large amount of music for BBC Radio 3. BBC NOW also performs throughout Wales and internationally, known for its wide-ranging repertoire from classical masterpieces to contemporary works. The ensemble has worked with a host of distinguished conductors and soloists, contributing significantly to the promotion of new music and has commissioned works from various composers. It also plays a vital role in the BBC's broadcasting and educational remits, performing at the BBC Proms and other festivals, while engaging with communities and schools across Wales to foster a love for classical music.
