The foursome of Chris Cornell (vocals, formerly of Soundgarden), Tom Morello (guitar), Tim Commerford (bass) and Brad Wilk (drums, all formerly of Rage Against The Machine) immediately hit the Top 40 of the German charts four years ago with their debut album. The new album, produced by Brendan O'Brien (Rage Against The Machine, Bruce Spingsteen, Pearl Jam), is musically influenced by old-school R&B and soul, according to the band. Morello recently described the LP as "a big hard rock record with a funky underbelly", with songs evoking memories of Led Zeppelin and Earth, Wind & Fire.Along with the first single "Original Fire", highlights of the album include the track "Wide Awake", which deals with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. "It's probably the most political song on Audioslave," Morello explains.
