Meanwhile, Ozzy Osbourne left the band to make an unexpected return to the recording sessions. The Toronto studio proved to be a poor choice, and drug use caused the band to lose all ease. Critics consider the album to be "shabby", but it should be noted that the public took an immediate liking to the album and it earned Black Sabbath one of the highest ratings in the charts immediately after its release. Graphic agency Hipgnosis once again took on the design, creating one of the most iconic pilot-themed covers in music history.
