Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory is an album by progressive metal band Dream Theater . It was released in 1999 and is the follow-up to their 1992 album Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Mind. The album was recorded at BearTracks Studios in New York City and was produced by John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy. The album was mixed by Kevin Shirley. The album is a concept album, telling the story of a man named Nicholas who has a dream in which he meets a woman named Victoria who tells him about the city of Metropolis. Nicholas then begins to have visions of the city that he struggles to understand. The album features guest appearances by John Myung, Jordan Rudess and Derek Sherinian. The album was met with a favorable critical response, with many reviewers praising the band's musicianship and songwriting. It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
