Battles is the eleventh studio album by Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames.It was released on 11 November 2016 via Nuclear Blast. The album was produced by the band and mixed by Chris Lord-Alge. It is the first album by In Flames , featuring new drummer Tanner Wayne and new bassist Bryce Paul.

The same old sound despite a new line-up A new effort from Swedish melodic death metal pioneers In Flames: with "Battles", the band presents a new studio album in 2016, just two years after "Siren Charms", their twelfth to date. Anders Fridén (vocals), Björn Gelotte (guitar), Niclas Engelin (guitar) and Peter Iwers (bass) recorded a total of twelve new songs earlier this year. Newcomer Joe Rickard, who replaced Daniel Svensson in 2016, sat behind the drums for the first time. Rickard joined the band through producer Howard Benson (Motörhead, Sepultura, My Chemical Romance). He sat behind the mixing desk during the filming of "Battles". Despite the personnel changes, the Gothenburg quintet hasn't forgotten its musical roots, as In Flames proved with the singles "The Truth" and "The End" before the release of the new album. Both songs confirm what the band announced beforehand: the mood on "Battles" is more upbeat than on its gloomily melancholic predecessor. In addition to the standard CD, "Battles" is also available as a double LP and as a double yellow vinyl including the CD. On their new album "Battles", 2016's In Flames once again show why they are considered one of the most style-defining bands in melodic metal: they stay true to themselves.
