Ludovico Einaudi opens up new possibilities again with his new album "Taranta Project". Einaudi dedicates "Taranta Project" to the folk dance "Taranta", which is popular in southern Italy and is mainly known here as "Tarantella". According to legend, this dance comes from the old folk belief that there is only one remedy for tarantula bites: dancing. The musicians come to the patient and start playing, and the bitten person dances - literally "as if he had been stung by a tarantula" - until exhaustion to expel the poison from his body. Ludovico Einaudi is concerned not only with the preservation of a rich musical heritage, but also with its contemporary development. He wants to build on the old with new ideas, keep it alive and thus make it interesting for a young audience. That is why he groups expressive forms from various other musical genres around Taranta. Here we encounter, among other things, the sounds of African kora, Arabic chanting and contemporary rock music, pop melodies and film strings. Ludovico Einaudi made his name as a composer of orchestral works, incidental music and soundtracks, but it was his solo piano programmes in the mid-1990s that brought him worldwide fame. On countless studio albums such as "Le Onde" and "I Giorni", he has created a meditative ambient sound that puts you in a good mood. His soothing and introspective piano music, which shows influences ranging from Erik Satie to Philip Glass to Didier Squiban, quickly found a loyal following among listeners. Incidentally, the cornerstone of the Taranta project was laid five years ago. At that time, the Salento orchestra asked him to conduct the "La Notte della Taranta" festival. Einaudi then went on tour with the participants and at the end of the tour it was clear to everyone that the music they had created together had to be recorded on an album. The "Taranta" project is now available, inspiring epic compositions and visionary arrangements with modern, cross-border variations of Taranta. This is what regional folklore must sound like in the age of globalization!
