On this 1983 album, Miles Davis rediscovers the blues. In addition to the band members from the "We Want Miles" album, John Scofield, who was part of Davis' band with Mike Stern in late 1982 and also in early 1983, makes his first appearance on the recording. Five of the six tracks feature Marcus Miller, who was later replaced by Tom Barney. Al Foster and Mino Cinelu play drums and percussion. Miles Davis plays trumpet and often the Oberheim synthesizer simultaneously (without the use of overdubs), as well as a self-recorded intermezzo for the more than one-minute blues "Star People".
