Brad Pitt plays the legendary western hero Jesse James in "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" and won the Coppa Volti award at the Venice Film Festival, his biggest award to date, alongside the Golden Globe for his performance in "Twelve Monkeys". The film is about the relationship between 19-year-old Robert Ford, played by Ben Affleck's brother Casey, and an outlaw who was already very famous at the time (in the 1870s) and who was called the American Robin Hood in many media because he robbed only the "right" banks and trains. Robert Ford shoots his great role model in the back. Andrew Dominik's noir western, shot in cool, elegiac images, is about why and whether Jesse James would put up with it. The music by NICK CAVE and WARREN ELLIS, whose sparse instrumentation consists almost entirely of piano and violin, beautifully underscores the elegiac images.
