Deluxe 50th Anniversary Reissue Rory Gallagher's eponymous debut solo album will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2021. Universal is celebrating this special anniversary with three different 50th Anniversary editions - on double CD, three LPs and as a deluxe box set with four CDs and a DVD. The album "Rory Gallagher" was originally released by Polydor in 1971. It was the first solo album by the Irish blues rocker, who had left Taste a year earlier. In the spring of 1971, Gallagher recorded the album with drummer Wilgar Campbell and Gerry McAvoy on bass at Advision studios in London. Two tracks feature Vincent Crane on piano. In the end, ten tracks made it onto the album, all penned by Gallagher. The band honed them in a rehearsal room in the basement of a music shop in the Fulham area of London until recording. "Rory Gallagher" charted at number 32 in the UK charts. The 50th anniversary edition on double CD and double vinyl features a new stereo mix of the original album, including 18 previously unreleased alternate takes. The deluxe box set of four CDs and a DVD includes a new mix and 30 previously unreleased alternative recordings, six tracks from the 1971 BBC Radio John Peel Sunday Concert and four tracks from the 1971 BBC Radio Sounds of the Seventies, which were mastered at Abbey Road Studios. The box set includes a previously unreleased 50-minute DVD of Rory's first solo concert for the TV show "Pop Deux", a poster and a 32-page hardback book with rare/unseen photographs by British rock photographer Barrie Wentzell and exclusive cover notes written by Rory's brother and manager Donal Gallagher and his long-time bassist Gerry McAvoy. There are also mementos of the album's recording sessions and handwritten lyrics by Rory.
