Crime Of The Century ist Supertramps drittes Album, das ursprünglich im September 1974 veröffentlicht und von Ken Scott und Supertramp produziert wurde.

Es war der kommerzielle Durchbruch der Band sowohl in den USA als auch in Großbritannien, unterstützt durch den britischen Hit "Dreamer" und den US-Hit "Bloody Well Right". Es erreichte die Top-10-Album-Charts des Vereinigten Königreichs und war ein Top-40-Album in den USA, wo es 1977 mit Gold ausgezeichnet wurde. In Kanada hielt es sich über zwei Jahre lang in den Charts und verkaufte sich über eine Million Mal.

Das Album wurde von den Kritikern gelobt, unter anderem wurde es in die "50 Greatest Prog Rock Alben of All Time" von Rolling Stone aufgenommen. Crime of the Century behandelt in lockerer Weise die Themen Einsamkeit und geistige Stabilität, ist aber kein Konzeptalbum. Davies verknüpfte den Eröffnungstitel "School" bewusst mit "Bloody Well Right" mit der Zeile "So you think your schooling is phoney", und laut Hodgson blieb jeder darüber hinausgehende Anknüpfungspunkt der Phantasie des Hörers überlassen.

Crime Of The Century is the third album by Supertramp, originally released in September 1974 and produced by Ken Scott and Supertramp. It was the band's commercial breakthrough in both the US and UK, helped by the UK hit "Dreamer" and the US hit "Bloody Well Right". In the UK, the album reached the top ten of the album chart and in the US, where it went gold in 1977, it reached the top forty. In Canada, it stayed on the charts for over two years and sold over a million units. The album was met with favourable reviews from critics, including being included in Rolling Stone magazine's "50 Greatest Prog Rock Albums of All Time". Crime of the Century deals loosely with themes of loneliness and mental stability, but it is not a concept album.
