That's the comment of Juha Raivio, the main songwriter of Finnish melodic doom/death band Swallow The Sun, the band's first release for their new label Century Media Records, and more precisely the sixth, seventh and eighth in the band's history. The clear words of a man who has the deeply personal, death, despondency, beauty and despair as his themes and wants the result of his commitment to be seen not only as a lavish release but also as a statement. Swallow The Sun are not naive idealists. They have broken into the Top 3 several times in their homeland and have achieved significant results despite their dark doom/death sound. "Songs from the North I, II & III" offers striking stylistic differences on each album: the first part offers classic doom/death embellished with great guitar melodies similar to earlier Katatonia, October Tide; the second part is probably the most striking surprise in the form of melancholic songwriting and the third part the darkest funeral doom similar to Thergothon, Evoken, Tyranny.
