In November 1968, millions of copies of the eponymous ninth double album by one of the most legendary bands in music history - the Beatles - were shipped to music stores around the world. The album, which has continued to inspire mankind for generations, later came to be known as The White Album. The reissue of the album will be released on November 9 and will include 30 songs newly mixed to a high quality by Giles Martin (son of George Martin) and Sam Okell (The White Album), 27 earlier acoustic demos (Esher Demos) and 50 of the mostly unreleased recordings from the studio sessions (Sessions).The White Album will be available in several versions. The super deluxe version, with its traditional unique numbering, will include two discs featuring the recorded album, one disc of Esher Demos, three discs of Sessions, four Blu-ray versions of the album and is accompanied by a book full of photos, posters, manuscripts, notes and lyrics. The deluxe version will include the aforementioned discs, a 4LP limited box set - the classic album and an audio collection that includes Esher Demos, a 24-page booklet, posters and portraits, among other things. The standard version then contains the classic original 2LP.Most of the tracks were composed at Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's meditation centre near Rishikesh, India, where the band members and their wives travelled in February 1968 to recuperate and meditate. Unlike the previous album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The White Album was not intended as a concept album. No theme unites the songs, and many styles of music (blues, hard-rock, folk, ska, etc.) are interchanged. It is possible that it was because of such a multitude of disparate "boxes" or "corners" that the Beatles originally wanted to call this album A Doll's House.The album cover was designed by renowned pop artist Richard Hamilton and contrasts with the cover of "Sergeant Pepper" in the same way as the musical content of the two albums. The entire cover is white. Only the title of the album is embossed or printed in shades of grey on the cover.The album became an instant bestseller in Britain and America, topping the charts for eight to nine weeks. The album went platinum 19 times and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2000 as "an album of unfading quality and historical significance". "This is the best album the Beatles ever made, and only the Beatles can make it better," Rolling Stone magazine co-founder Jann Wenner commented at the time.
