Various: Studio One Rocksteady Volume 2 (Rocksteady, Soul And Early Reggae At Studio One: The Soul Of Young Jamaica) Die Version auf Vinyl 2LP in Standard- Auflage. Diese besondere Auflage wurde veröffentlicht in UK im Verlag Soul Jazz Records am 27. Januar 2017.
The latest excavations of Soul Jazz from the seemingly inexhaustible archives of Studio One once again take on the theme of rocksteady. The compilation, accompanied by liner notes by Steve Barrow, author of "Rough Guide To Reggae", presents a total of 19 soul-infused offbeat songs produced by Clement "Sir Coxsone" Dodd, most of which were written in the late 1960s. Genealogically between ska and early reggae or roots reggae. The band also includes harmony groups like the Gaylads, John Holt & The Paragons and Carlton & The Shoes, whose fascination with American role models like Curtis Mayfield and other famous soul artists is unmistakable. The influence of soul on reggae is obvious, but nowhere is it more pronounced than in rocksteady. Vocal prodigies like Alton Ellis, Delroy Wilson and Owen Gray made their mark on this era. They are featured on "Rocksteady 2" alongside such greats as The Heptones (with a cover of Bob Dylan's "I Shall Be Released"), The Actions and Cannon & The Soul Vendors.
Album Genres übergreifend Reggae und Rocksteady.
