Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was a renowned Russian composer of the Romantic era, whose works are among the most popular music in the classical repertoire. Born on May 7, 1840, in Votkinsk, Russia, Tchaikovsky was trained at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and went on to create a large body of work that includes symphonies, operas, ballets, instrumental and chamber music. His most famous compositions include ballets such as "Swan Lake," "The Nutcracker," and "Sleeping Beauty," as well as the "1812 Overture" and his Symphony No. 6 "Pathétique." Tchaikovsky's music is known for its rich melodies, vivid orchestration, and emotional depth. Despite facing personal turmoil and depression throughout his life, he achieved considerable acclaim during his career and influenced many later composers. Tchaikovsky died on November 6, 1893, in Saint Petersburg, under circumstances that remain controversial and unclear.
