The 1982 album "Vinyl Confessions" is dedicated to the success that can be achieved through innovative and progressive approaches in music. Kansas' own brand of art rock at its core has produced some of rock and roll's brightest moments. "Vinyl Confessions" contains the immortal hit "Play The Game Tonight" and also marked a major turning point for the band. Following the conversion of guitarist and keyboardist Kerry Livgren and bassist Dave Hope to Christianity, and Livgren's emphasis on religion in the band's lyrics, singer Steve Walsh became uncomfortable and left to form his own band. After a lengthy audition process, the selection centered on three strong candidates, Warren Ham, Michael Gleason and John Elefante, of which the band eventually chose Elefante.
