When Bonobo chose a track by unknown band Khruangbin for his "Late Night Tales" in 2013, no one could have guessed that the Houston trio would become international stars moments later thanks to their exotic sound. Immediately following their third studio album, "Mordechai" (June 2020), now comes their self-release in this music-loving series. Khruangbin's sun-drenched, life-affirming selections transcend borders and cultures, her love of global rhythms - from Asian pop to Nigerian reggae - imbued with eclecticism and soul. Hindi disco Nazie Hassan (produced by the legendary Biddu) meets South Korean rock band Sanulim, Nigeria's Maxwell Udoh meets Ethiopia's Roha Band, Belarusian formation Pesnyary meets Madrid's Paloma San Brasilio. Sami Khruangbin add the obligatory exclusive cover, a great version of "Summer Madness" by Kool & The Gangs. Houston friends Tierney Malone (lyrics) and Geoffrey Muller (music) close the set with spoken word, backed by an atmospheric version of Eric Satie's "Gnossienne" on banjo. Wonderful! "It's great to think about what you would listen to late at night as a band, lighting a cigarette and all that. We definitely wanted to cover as much global territory as possible, so it was the world and then home. We wanted to showcase treasures from our hometown or people from our hometown that the rest of the world probably doesn't know. That's what makes Khruangbin Khruangbin. The stubbornness with which we focus on our hometown, but Houston is constantly influenced by international influences because of it. That's the Gulf Stream that brings it right to Houston. So I guess that's kind of the theme."-Khruangbin
