The album was met with mixed to positive reviews from music critics. Eduardo Rivadavia of AllMusic awarded the album three and a half stars out of five, stating that "Better Motörhead Than Dead - Live At Hammersmith" is a "damn fine Motörhead live album". Rivadavia went on to say that the album "serves as a fitting epitaph for the band's longtime drummer Mikkey Dee, while also reminding us how good Motörhead can be when they're going full blast".
